| Thallus whitish grey to pale grey-green, thin, effuse, spreading, rarely with diffuse patchy soralia; lobules absent. Apothecia common, dispersed over the thallus, sessile, constricted at the base, 0.4–2.0 mm wide; disc initially orange but soon becoming brown, plane, often covered with yellow to brownish pruina; margin prominent, smooth, deep orange to red-brown. Exciple biatorine, deeply penetrated by orange crystals; medullary layer colourless, only distinct below the hypothecium. Hymenium colourless, clear to slightly inspersed with small oil droplets, 120–150 μm thick. Hypothecium colourless to pale brown. Asci 90–130 × 30–50 μm. Ascospores 75–110 × 25–40 μm. Spore-borne microconidia occasionally present. Pycnidia not seen. CHEMISTRY: Thallus K+ yellow, C–, P–; apothecial margin K+ dark blue to black, disc K+ purple; apothecial sections and exciple K+ blue to blue-violet, epihymenium K+ bluish, pruina K+ purple; thallus containing atranorin, zeorin, ±traces of other triterpenes; apothecia containing parietin, ligastroquinone, ±simonyellin. |

| Known from bark in rainforest and wet-sclerophyll forest in eastern Qld and N.S.W. This palaeotropical-subtropical species is common in Africa, eastern and southern Asia, Papua New Guinea, New Caledonia and the Hawaiian Islands. | ||
